Equipment For Homebrewing

Below is a list of equipment I have purchased for homebrewing. Not all equipment comes with a kit so you may have to buy it individually.

It may also be necessary to by some of the equipment by itself since if it came with a kit and broke you will need to purchase a new one.

Equipment not Included in Most Kits

Digital Thermometer – I suggest buying a digital read thermometer because its so much easier to read and get a quick idea of the temperature of your wort or must.

Barley Crusher – The one we like to use is the Northern Brewer Hullwrecker. We used to have the grains crushed by the local homebrew store but they did a terrible job and we lost so much efficiency. Its also important to buy your own when ordering grain online. It saves tons of money!

PH meter – While not necessary to start with you can improve your consistency and brew quality beer by making sure your mash PH is balanced. Make sure to have distilled water on hand to clean and test.

Equipment Included in Kits but May Need to Purchase Individually

Twin Bubble Airlock – Most kits include airlocks so you will likely have many, but if you are link me and drop it on the floor, it will crack and you will need to buy a new one.

1 gallon carboy – If you are making lots of mead it can take a long time to ferment. Its also nice to have extra vessels to transfer to secondary. So you might want to have a few extras on hand.
